    Benedict's test- test for presence of reducing sugar


    1. Add 2 cubic centermetres of benedicts solution to the food sample.

    2. Shake the mixture and heat it in a water bath.


    Result:

    If reducing sugar is present, the mixture will change from blue to orange-red precipitate.

    Biuret test- test for presence of protein


    1. Add biuret solution drop by drop till it turns violet.

    2. Shake it gently.


    Result:

    If protein is present, the biuret solution will turn from blue to violet colouration.
