Electrons travel faster than light when in water???
In 1934, a Russian physicist, Pavel Cerenkov, speeded up electrons to 160 000 miles/sec in water. Light travels at 140 000miles/sec in water. Thus, in water, electrons travel faster than light!! Isn't it amazing?? For his work, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in physics in 1958.

Why does light travel FASTER than sound??
LIGHT is an electromagnetic wave, such as infrares and ultraviolet waves, that travels at 186 000 miles per second. But SOUND is a pressure wave that travels through air and other objects. The speed of the pressure is determined by the physical properties of the air.

Ever wondered what are umbra and penumbra shadows?
Umbra is the darkest part of the shadow, the light source is completely occluded, experiencing a total eclipse.
Penumbra is in which only a portion of the occulting body is obscuring the light source, experiencing a partial eclipse.

Why is
red on top and
violet right at the bottom during dispersion??
Basically, when white light travels through the prism at different speeds, red is the fastest, thus, bending away from the normal, violet is the slowest, thus, bending towards the normal.

Did you catch the
solar eclipse on
15 JANUARY 2010??The
Solar Eclispe over the
Indian Ocean was known the
"Ring of Fire" as the
Sun and the Moon are exactly in line but the actual size of the
Moon's shadow is
smaller than that of the visible disc of the Sun. The covered Sun is therefore known as the "Ring of Fire".
It lasted for about
11 minutes 18 seconds on
15 January 2010.We should
never watch the eclispe with our
naked eyes too!

Are sports drinks acidic??
YES!! Sports Drinks are ACIDIC. They possess high content of sugar, addictives and mainly, CITRIC ACID.
Bad News!!
After prolonged consumption of sports drinks, you run the risk of damaging your teeth. According to my research, sports drinks weakens the tooth enamel, causing bacteria to "invade" and grow more easily. It can erode the dentin of your teeth as well.
Ways to reduce this risk:
- should be consumed quickly, preferably with a straw
- do not retain drinks in your mouth
- go for refrigerated sports drinks as the acid dissolution constant is temperature dependant

Can't sense our gloved hands??
A capacitive touch screen panel consisits of an insulator (e.g. glass), coated with a transparent conductor (e.g. indium tin oxide). As our body is a conductor, thus, it results in a distortion of the local electrostatic field when our fingers are in contact with the screen.
Therefore, wearing gloves will interfere with the transmission of electrical current between your fingers and the touch screen.

The ice sticks to my fingers after taking out from the freezer! Why??
Basically, all of us have moisture on our fingers, and this moisture (water) instantly becomes frozen to the suface of the ice, thus resulting in a "sticky" feeling.
